Counselling

In the last ten to twenty years increasing numbers of people have been seeking help for their problems through counselling and psychotherapy. It has become accepted by those in mainstream medicine, and larger companies now send their employees to see counsellors usually via an Employee Assistance Programme or EAP. We are lucky that we live in an enlightened age and those with emotional problems are no longer seen as 'mad' or told to 'buck up and get on with it'.

We all have times when we are feeling down, and counselling can help you to make sense of, and get through, these periods. The time that you spend in the therapy session is a time when you can relax and say exactly how you feel without being judged or having anyone take sides. Unlike your best friend a counsellor will not tell you what you want to hear but will guide you to the understanding and decision that is right for you.

Therapy can take as long or as short a time as is right for you- you don't need to worry that by coming to see me you will be committing yourself to a long and costly therapy contract. I use a mix of 'tools' from various counselling models (e.g Person-centred, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic) usually referrred to as working eclectically, to suit the person and issue. If I feel it is appropriate, and with your consent, I may suggest that we use Hypnotherapy and/or Emotional  Freedom Technique along with the Counselling.

I mentioned issues from the past on the previous page but of course, if your issues are firmly in the present and you need help to come to a decision, or even just to download about a stressor at home or work, I can do that too. Though we love our friends they are not always the ones to go to if you need an impartial ear. I am not a miracle worker and will not give you direct advice, however I will work with you using every means possible to help you towards a better future.
